- Did you know that admission to the Des Moines Art Center is always free?
- There is also free admission to the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden in downtown Des Moines.
- The State Historical Building also has free admission, with lots of great permanent exhibits, as well as rotating traveling exhibits throughout the year.
- The Jordan House in West Des Moines was the site of an underground railroad station. It's $3 for adults, $1 for children, but there is an open house on Sunday, May 2 from 2-5 pm with free admission for all.
- Farmers Markets are starting all over the central Iowa area. Check out Adel on Saturdays 8:30 to 11 am
- Altoona Fridays 4-7 pm;
- Ames Downtown Thursdays 4-7 pm, Saturdays 8-1; North Grand (Ames) Wednesdays 3-6, Saturdays 8-12; Reiman Gardens (Ames) Wednesdays 4-7 pm
